This stunning trail running festival again played of in the unmatched outdoor arena encompassing the dramatic peaks towering above Stellenbosch. Nothing quite touches the mountain splendour of this trail paradise, and this time around a dusting of snow made the scenery more Alpine than Winelands. Hard core athletes fjorded raging mountain rivers and high-altitude powder, while I moped around on the lower level trails grabbing pix of the winners thumping home. My excuse? The flu, but overall I think I was just being damn pathetic – this combo of light, scenery and trail love does not happen that often, and I’m gutted to have missed it. Next year I’m going to be up there, even if Heaven freezes over again!
