Days don’t come much bigger than this. Every athlete and crew member at Tsitsikamma National Park look amped to the max, like thoroughbreds stomping at the race gate. Today’s Prologue did nothing to blunt this undercurrent of anticipation, and the runners basically ripped up the technical 4km-plus route, with the fastest time kicking in at a scorching 19min 51sec (set by visiting UK athlete James McMullan). Solid showings by Andre Joubert Calitz, Kane Reilly, Victor Gugushe, Sebastian Chagneau, Krissy Moehl and Landie Visser Greyling – to name but a few – sets the stage for a duel of epic proportions tomorrow. I’ve been shooting the RETTO in my sleep for the past week, so I should have my ducks pretty much in a row tomorrow. Tune in to the SM Feed, as this is going to be the biggest trail run in SA history. GO RETTO!
