Brandkop Farm #2

#Petrichor … The smell of distant rain drops thumping down onto the Namaqua West Coast plains, and blending with the dry-as-dust crust where Mother Earth rises up along the edge of the inland escarpment. We careened along the descent from #calvinia, dust-tailing onto the nondescript #Loeriesfontein back road, and here we happened upon an arid paradise …

Brandkop Farm Accommodation & Camping is one of those unique rural destinations where tourism and agriculture find mutual equilibrium. This flame is kindled by Pieter and Elizna Louw and for one wonderful day we were privileged enough to lose ourselves amidst their profusion of volcanic outcrops and dusty river beds and quiver trees and bedrock plateaus.

It was a transcendental experience, right from elegant sundowners on #BokSpoorSpinnekop Plain, to riding their windswept #mountainbike route, even surrendering to their faultless hospitality and sublime meals. Pieter’s private hideaway #kokerboom forest was the cherry on top, and here you’ll find one of the most perfect specimens of Aloidendron dichotomum in all of the known botanical kingdom.

I feel we have barely scratched the surface of this minimalist land as we timelined the dusty roads in our ISUZU South Africa bakkies … There are so many more adventures to experience, and people to meet, and stories to hear. Thank you for guiding our journey so far, Monika De Jager 🙏🙏
