We do cold-water immersions most mornings, even in winter when it’s dark and the pool water has dipped well into single-figures. It’s not often that we get to go for a #subzero #trailrun, though, so what a jol it was to head out into the #hogsback forests on a dawn run with big, fat snow flakes sifting down amidst the stark pine plantations racking up towards #TheHogs‘.
This makes for a rather fresh #coldexposure experience, so kudos to Glen Velleman for pitching up in his ‘short-pant’, in typical Ooskaap fashion. There are few things as rewarding as running within the all-encompassing embrace of the #wilds of the Eastern Cape Tourism Province’s #Amatole region, surrounded by the tranquility of a snow-blanketed landscape, all while following your dragon breath along a densely wooded singletrack trail (and doing it with your family is even better)!
Even the birds were quiet as we ascended the rickety, wooden staircase up to #Kettlespout Falls, where a dreamlike winter wonderland awaited. The galeforce winds funneling up the cliff-side had morphed the trees into ice sculptures, with glittering icicles covering leaves and branches, all dusted in wedding-cake white icing sugar. “BEST RUN EVER”!, hollered Robster as we headed back down the trail, which made the whole experience even sweeter
