Namaqua West Coast – Adventure #3

That’s Adventure #3 in Namaqua West Coast done and dusted. I really only discovered this outdoor paradise in May this year during Expedition Africa, but since then, it has become one of my absolute favourite #outdoor playgrounds in South Africa.

There is the beach break at #Strandfontein, with its right and left lines, where the waves pack serious grunt. Or #Bamboesbaai and the sea cliffs of #Blouberg, where you can #trailrun or #mtb while dolphins and whales breach in the ocean below your feet.

A few minutes away, a #RAMSAR protected estuary and wetland system shimmers amidst the #bossieveld ocean plains. It is here at #papendorp that the #OlifantsRiver flows into the Atlantic Ocean, and up-river you will find one of the world’s most fertile #wine regions.

The superb Namaqua Wines, Vredendal malbec, sauvignon blancs and pinotages thrive on the combination of chilled ocean breezes and deep, arid soil, making them the perfect accompaniment to the quality seafood and red meat that the area is so famed for. Plus, kiff #craftbeer from the likes of Maskam Brewing Company for the non-wino types to boot…

And finally, there are the the people, with their warm smiles and big hearts and no-bullshit attitudes, who somehow are never able to stop filling your glass, or heap more food on your plate, or pull in for a ☿ bit of skinner. Let me tell you, they are pure gold.

Next time, I’m bringing my family. It was a beautiful feeling sharing the waves and the trails with #TheRobster, but more than anything, the #NamaquaWestCoast is a family destination. And I know KarynBeth and Gracey Meisie will love it here, too.
