This will be year #12 that I am lining up to shoot the Otter African Trail Run, and what an incredible adventure it has been. It feels as if I’m joining my #trailrun family every time I arrive at the SANParks – Garden Route (Tsitsikamma, Knysna & Wilderness) National Park, and this year will be special, with so many athletes raring to go after the restrictions of lockdown.

One thing to not forget as you gear up for one of the hardest wilderness marathons in the world is how fortunate you are to be here. You are surrounded by one of the most pristine marine protected areas in all of Africa, with stunning riparian forests, dolphins and sea horses cavorting in the Indian Ocean, Knysna touraco in the canopy treetops, and bushbuck gracing in verdant coastal meadows.

Always remember that reconnecting with nature should be your primary driving force, and that this is where the true stoke of the #grailoftrail lies rooted.
