As Brian Allot said yesterday when I bumped into him at some dodgy take-away joint in search of post-race sustenance: “I dug that race stukkend”! Every single thing conspired on the day to make it a perfect event: the stunning venue at Lourensford Wine Estate; absolutely perfect weather; a great field of athletes; and a course that harked back to old-school adventure racing, with rock fields, stretches of sand, river crossings and a cool-down dam swim on the run.
The continued association with main sponsors has by now given the ADVENTURE DUO Events a character of their own, and this is reflected in the type of people who come here to compete. Generally the AR Sprint enthusiasts (and a good few triathlon racing snakes) go for the Long Course (25-30km MTB + 6km Trail Run), while the FFBs (Family & Fun Brigade) get stuck into the no-holds-barred joie de vivre of the great outdoors.
Whichever way you look at it, there is no better way to bond with your bike, trail shoes and mates than doing the SPUR Adventure Duo. So, if you’ve not done one lately, it’s is time to return … the FUN is back!
