Close Encounter of the Bird Kind

So, some context 🙂 I was shooting the final day of the Bitou Birding Festival at a wonderful organisation called Raptor Rescue Plett. They’re the go-to people if you need an injured bird treated or rehabilitated here on the Garden Route, and therefore the perfect place for the festival’s closing ceremony (a ‘Parliament of Owls’).

During the ceremony, some of the owls demonstrated their incredible flying skills. It was then that the barn owl decided to land on my camera, rather than its perch. My best moment of the festival, and believe me, there were loads!

I knew I still had a lot to learn about #birding, but gained so much knowledge over a week of events and activities with Birdlife Plettenberg Bay and some of SA’s most impressive birders. Inclusive, informative, educational and thoroughly enjoyable – put it on your calendar for 2027!
And thank you, Stephan Van Wyk, for capturing this incredible moment 🙏🏼
