Working through my final edits from our Boundless Southern Africa Media Trip along the #LowerZambezi #TFCA. Dozens of memories stand out from this epic adventure through Zimbabwe and Zambia, but none more so than the morning we were double-tapped by a grumpy hippo bull while on a dawn canoe paddle.

This happened near the Kafue confluence, with Africa’s wildest transfrontier park unfolding on both sides of the mighty Zambezi. Anderson – our quick-thinking guide from Kiambi Safaris – saved the day by gunning the back-up boat into the fray. You don’t reflect too much on these moments, until you come face to face with one of these mega-mammals looking you dead in the eye … this is when you instinctively sense and soak up their primal presence.

Let’s just say you’re not going to be making any #YourMama Jokes while facing of with this mother of a river-horse!
