MTB Road Trip 2013 – Tranquilitas Trails

One of the best surprises of our mini-road trip to map and shoot MTB Routes for my new MTB TRAILS Guide (covering ZKN and SA’s northern provinces) has been Tranquilitas Trails. When I last road Boven around 6 years ago, the route consisted of gravel roads, jeep track and the odd bit of hiking path, all haphazardly mixed together and with very little flow.

Then Glenn Harrisson came into the picture, and over the past few years he has scaped some superb trails on and around this popular adventure farm. Starting from the Reception Offices, bike routes bomb along the legendary Waterval Boven cliffs, climb steeply into the surrounding mountains, and swerve in tight turns through the adjoining Sappi plantations and patches of forest.

Even better, Glenn got permission from the neighbouring Mountain Club of SA to start construction on a back-country trail winding into the valley below Tranquilitas, and what we’ve seen along the top section of this, it promises to be a ride to test your All-Mountain and DH Skills.

I know Boven is world-famous as a climbing destination (get more info on this from the Roc ‘n Rope Adventures peeps, if you’re keen), but you can bet that it will soon be an MTB destination of note as well. And shot Glenn for one helluva ride – really wish we had more time!
