Two videos – captured on the #trailcam a couple of weeks apart – and I’m chuffed to announce that Mama Pig has managed to keep Pepper, Salt, Aromat and Tabasco safe from the claws of our resident Cape leopard. I’m not rooting for any team here, but those piglets are helluva cute …
Bushpigs (Potamochoerus larvatus) are widespread throughout the Garden Route forests, with a population density of around 0.3 – 0.5 animals per square kilometre. An average adult weighs between 50-100kg, but big boars can tip the scales at up to 150kg. That would be like tussling with Eben Etsebeth, but with added tusks and hooves!
